Ofsted Celebrates Park House School’s Outstanding Education and Sixth Form Provision

We are delighted to announce that Park House School in Newbury has been judged ‘Outstanding’ for both the quality of education and sixth-form provision following a full (Section 5) Ofsted inspection in May 2025. Behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management were each judged to be ‘Good’, confirming the school’s rapid improvement journey.
Part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, Park House School has undergone a remarkable transformation over the last three years. Led by Headteacher James King, the school has established itself as a place of high expectations, academic excellence, and inclusive values at the heart of its local community.
Inspectors praised the school’s impact, noting that “pupils achieve exceptionally well” and are “well prepared for further education and employment.” Students benefit from a rich and ambitious curriculum, taught with clarity and care. Lessons are carefully sequenced, ensuring all students, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make outstanding progress. Disadvantaged pupils also thrive, supported by timely and effective interventions.
The sixth form was described as “exceptional”, with students demonstrating maturity, independence, and impressive academic achievement. A wide range of expertly taught courses and a strong wider curriculum ensure learners are well equipped for university, employment, and adult life.
Park House is a safe and nurturing environment where pupils feel supported and demonstrate “exemplary behaviour”. Inspectors recognised the “calm and purposeful” atmosphere and praised the school’s swift and effective response to any concerns. Pupils reported feeling confident that unkindness is not tolerated and are proud of the school’s inclusive ethos.
Enrichment plays a vital role in school life. Initiatives such as Fun Friday, where students take part in activities like seed bomb making to boost biodiversity, help build confidence and connection. Daily reading, character education, and discussion of current affairs further promote students’ personal development.
Leadership at all levels is strong and purposeful. The governing body and Greenshaw Learning Trust provide strategic oversight to ensure improvements are sustained and always in the best interest of pupils. Staff feel well supported, and parents are overwhelmingly positive about the school’s direction and impact.
James King, Headteacher, says: “This outcome is a powerful reflection of the dedication and belief shared across our school community - staff, students, families, governors, and the Greenshaw Learning Trust. We are proud to be recognised for our high standards and inclusive ethos, but most of all, we are proud of our students: their kindness, resilience, curiosity, and the way they represent everything Park House stands for. We will continue to live by our values: Work hard. Be kind. Take responsibility.”
