Rachel Dean

Rachel began her career as an NQT in 1997 and has since progressed through Key Stage Lead and Deputy Head roles to Headteacher, remaining a constant through the school’s evolution.

I joined the school as an NQT in 1997 when it was a junior school, remaining a constant through its many evolutions—from its amalgamation into a primary school to the integration of a hearing resource base and its eventual transition into an all-through model. Having served as Key Stage 2 Lead and Deputy Head, I was appointed Headteacher in 2019, coinciding with our opening as Woodlands School. I am particularly proud of our Highly Inclusive culture, where staff are empowered to grow as a family, and our shared moral purpose, which ensures equality of opportunity for every child.

To me, 'always learning' is more than a motto; it defines our fundamental way of working, ensuring that professional growth and reflection are woven into everything we do. This commitment to continuous growth is why I value being part of a Trust that prioritises development. It provides invaluable opportunities to learn from diverse schools, ensuring our practice remains outward-facing, innovative, and impactful.
