Craig joined Coombe Wood School in 2020 as a Teacher of English and Head of Year, progressing to Assistant Headteacher and now working across the Trust as a School Improvement Lead for Safeguarding.
I came to education later than most, having spent my previous career in talent management working with some of the biggest names in the TV and film industry. While that world was high-stakes, I found my passion in the classroom as an English Teacher, eventually moving into middle and senior leadership as a Head of Year and then Assistant Headteacher for Safeguarding.
When my school joined Greenshaw Learning Trust from another organisation, the shift in culture was immediate. It was very apparent from day one that the Trust views safeguarding not just as a statutory duty, but as a top priority. I quickly met with the School Improvement Lead for Safeguarding, who took the time to truly understand our school’s specific context.
What stood out to me most was how obviously the Trust supports staff working in this field. Safeguarding can be incredibly difficult and emotionally demanding, but GLT provides the framework and professional backup to ensure you aren’t carrying that weight alone. Following a successful audit, I was encouraged to support other schools within the Trust and was given the opportunity to join the ‘Step Up’ programme - a clear reflection of how GLT invests in its leaders to help them reach the next level.
Recently, I made the transition from school leadership to joining the School Improvement Team as a Lead for Safeguarding. It has been a supportive and challenging shift but what always sticks with me is how deeply the Trust values the safety of our children; it is a thread that runs through every single school we serve. In my new role, I have the privilege of visiting a huge variety of settings, seeing the excellent work already taking place, and collaborating with staff to help their practice develop even further.
GLT is a place where your previous experiences are valued, and future growth is celebrated. For anyone looking to make a genuine impact within a culture that cares, there is no better place to be
