As a diverse family of schools, the Greenshaw Learning Trust prides itself on its inclusive policies and practice. We welcome everybody to our schools regardless of background, creed or colour and expect everyone to be treated equally and with respect.
Following the death of George Floyd in America and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, the Chair of Board of Trustees and CEO acknowledged there was more that we could do and provided a commitment to improve. You can view the statement here.
Since this promise, senior leaders from schools and shared services have met to discuss how we can educate ourselves and have the confidence to discuss diversity with shared language and an inclusive mindset.
A key area of discussion has been on how to gain the working literacy to allow everyone to feel confident to discuss diversity and to enable safe spaces for all students and adults to feel welcomed, supported and valued in their school/shared services community.
Initial discussions have started to look at schools’ curriculum and reading programmes to ensure the learning resources celebrate diversity and positive models are shared and promoted so that all young people see themselves reflected.
These are just small steps on the Trust's journey of improvement and further updates will be shared.
